MANNAHOUSE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY ADVANTAGE
For more than 40 years MannaHouse Christian Academy has been providing the finest in academic excellence in a wholesome Christ-centered environment within the Northeast Portland area. We would like to extend an opportunity for you to explore the way in which MCA has been partnering with parents to raise up young people that are not only making an impact in our region, but in our world.
As a parent, we only get one chance to raise our children. The early through teen years are among the most critical seasons in parenting. Not only are these the years a child prepares for their future academically, it’s also the time when foundational elements of their character and values are developed and personalized.
At MCA, we understand and we work alongside parents to help prepare children academically, spiritually, and inter-personally. We work with parents to prepare children for life.

PREPARATION FOR GREATNESS
PARTNERING WITH PARENTS
At Mannahouse Christian Academy, our goal is to partner with parents to equip students for life achievement through academic preparation, character development, spiritual maturity, and a broad exposure to life and vocational opportunities in a supportive Christian environment. We believe that every stage of a child’s life is just as important as the next.
Upon completion of elementary school, students can continue their Mannahouse Christian Academy education through our middle school and high school. Both schools maintain the same commitment to academic excellence and spiritual development in a fun, wholesome, and supportive environment.
With great satisfaction we find that, upon completing high school, the majority of our students continue on to higher education, such as universities, community college, Bible college, and trade schools locally, regionally, and around the world. In addition, thousand of scholarship dollars are awarded every year to MCA students.

Internships with local businesses may be available to high school students who display leadership and initiative.
To help students develop the value of making an impact in their communities, community service is integrated into the school curriculum. We actually require students to complete a community service project as a requisite for graduation. Additionally, students have the opportunity to take part in an annual mission trip. Past trips have included missions to New Orleans, Mexico, and other locations.

We focus on providing the most effective, time-proven curriculum and educational techniques from teachers who are uniquely qualified to instruct in their course discipline. As a result, students at Mannahouse Christian Academy regularly perform from at least 1.5 to 2 grade levels above their peers across the nation.
Curriculum
Our curriculum consists of the latest up to date information and emphasizes a Christian perspective. We believe it is important to teach thinking skills as well as the fundamentals. Textbooks vary from Bob Jones, A Beka, ACSI, and Saxon. Our language program consists of Phonics, a strong spelling text and an emphasis on writing styles. Math curriculum stresses thinking skills as well as fundamental facts. Science includes many experiments, projects, life and physical sciences, and creation.
Blended Learning is a unique approach to instruction and curriculum design. Blended Learning includes both computer based learning and face to face instruction. It provides the benefits of both worlds, content delivery and accessibility through the online platform and face to face instruction for individualized coaching and mentor-ship. Additionally, our blended learning approach allows us to offer classes that we otherwise would not be able to offer due to the restrictions associated with our master schedule and staffing levels.
Students who sign up for a Blended Learning class are assigned to a supervised computer lab for one period a day where they can work on their online course curriculum. Then, one time per week, students connect with their online teacher and classmates face to face during lunchtime. Students of course can also communicate with their online teacher via email, before/after school, or just passing them by in the hallway.

Athletics is an important part of the Mannahouse Christian Academy experience. We believe organized athletics can offer students a unique opportunity to develop essential life skills such as teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, respect for rules and authority, dealing with both success and disappointment, and the proper role of competition, all in a fun, controlled and encouraging environment.
OSAA-logo-transMCA is a member of the OSAA and participates against both private and public schools at the 2A level. We offer soccer, cross country and girls volleyball in the fall, boys and girls basketball and cheer in the winter, track & field along with golf in the spring.
Our coaching staff places athlete safety and character development foremost among the skills to be taught and displayed in athletic competition. Additionally, coaches provide well-organized practices, which focus on fundamentals, and camps for those desiring additional skill development. As a result, Mannahouse Christian Academy teams have earned the prestigious Sportsmanship Award on many occasions and have enjoyed success at both the district and statewide levels.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
All high school students participate in physical education. Students are exposed to both health and fitness theory and a broad cross-section of sport and fitness activities. Our goal is to lay a foundation where students make physical health, strength, and activity a part of their adult lifestyle. For students desiring to pursue strength and fitness at the highest levels, our campus features a well equipped strength and fitness center. Electives include an advanced strength development course and an advanced aerobics and flexibility course. All Mannahouse Christian Academy P.E. classes and electives are taught in a highly supervised environment by a Cross-fit certified instructor.
SPIRITUAL LIFE
Mannahouse Christian Academy stresses a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, believing that each child should be “born again” according to John 3:3, 5. This has been at the core of our foundation purpose since beginning more than three decades ago.
At Mannahouse Christian Academy, we are not only interested in educating the mind—we also want to build the spirit. This is done by daily interaction between students and teachers, along with monthly scheduled chapel times. Chapels are held once a week and begin with student led worship. Students are encouraged to memorize Bible verses each month, which is thematically connected to their biweekly devotional class and they receive rewards for their efforts. Each day classes open with devotions, prayer, and a short study on Bible truths.
In all grades we incorporate small group discussions focusing on personal and spiritual growth in the students’ lives. The elementary school has daily Bible class where students learn biblical truths and practical application in their personal lives. In high school we offer classes on Bible and Christian apologetics.
We strongly encourage student participation in the annual One Conference held locally, one of the largest youth conferences held in the United States. Students are given the opportunity to perform in services and participate in outreaches to our city or other countries.
Mannahouse Christian Academy staff and administration encourages a positive peer influence among students, striving to foster a fun and interactive environment where healthy friendships come naturally. A godly compassion is encouraged, bringing about a positive atmosphere of love, care and concern toward one another.

Financial Aid Guidelines
If you have a desire to place your child (children) in MCA and are in need of financial aid, please email bfaria@mannahouseacademy.com to find out more about the financial aid process or call the school office at 503-252-5207.
The area of financial aid at Mannahouse Christian Academy is treated very carefully. It is the desire of the school to make sure, within reason, that a family which does not have the financial means but has a strong desire to attend our school, be helped as much as possible to achieve their enrollment goals. However, as a small, privately funded school, monies for such purposes are always in demand and usually limited. To this end, the financial aid board at MCA makes every attempt to raise funds for this purpose. We prudently perform a thorough but highly confidential financial analysis of all applicants, and make decisions accordingly.
Zman Scholarship is another opportunity to help with your child’s tuition. There are full and partial scholarships available to high school students. For more information please visit ZmanScholarship.org or call MCA at 503-252-5207. Application deadline is January 15th.

MIDDLE SCHOOL INFORMATION
At Mannahouse Christian Academy, we understand that the middle school years are one of the most critical stages in a young person’s emotional and social development. That’s why, along with helping students pursue excellence in their academic course work and spiritual development, we also create an environment where middle school students can grow and thrive in a supportive and cooperative social environment.
Middle school students have an opportunity to take high school level classes, giving them an academic advantage, and work on team projects in the classroom.
Students are offered a variety of elective classes. They participate in weekly small group devotional classes and have an opportunity to take part in out of town events for outdoor school and the Washington D.C. trip.
Sports more important both in P.E. classes and interscholastic team athletics.
Middle school academics includes high school preparatory coursework in English, Mathematics, Social Studies and Science.
Paramount for every student at MCA is spiritual development. At every level, prayer, devotions, chapel services, scripture memorization, and Bible are incorporated into good conduct and scholastic achievement.
In the pursuit of excellence, students are encouraged to explore and participate in a variety of formal competitions, including academic, artistic, music, and athletics. Students are also acknowledged with achievement awards, which include scripture trophies, character awards, honor roll, Principal’s list, good conduct, attendance, and scholastic achievement.
MIDDLE SCHOOL ATHLETICS
LIFELONG HABITS OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
View our Athletics Site Here
Athletics is an important part of the Mannahouse Christian Academy experience.
We offer soccer, cross country and girls volleyball in the fall, boys and girls basketball and cheer in the winter, track in the spring.
All middle school students participate in physical education.

PROVIDING A SOLID CHRISTIAN FOUNDATION IN EDUCATION
Elementary age children benefit from kindergarten through fifth grade. We provide a rigorous academic experience in core subjects preparing students for middle school and beyond.
Children are enriched by wide selection elective classes including art, music, computer, library, Spanish and physical education. Sports lovers are able to join one of our organized sports teams in 5th grade and above. Another important aspect of our students’ learning are our weekly chapel services, where Christian character and faith in God are strengthened.
Students are recognized for development progress in a variety of areas through ribbons, added privileges, and supervised parties and activities.
Our faculty and administration strive to make City Christian Schools a fun atmosphere for each child. It is a safe environment to try new things where children are encouraged to develop their God-given talents.
In addition to our regular academic schedule, we provide opportunities for students to participate in art fair, an annual talent show, and organized music concerts.
Annual field trips may include the pumpkin patch, children’s museum, the library, restaurants, the veterinary hospital, gem museum, Franz Bakery, Fort Vancouver, the John McLaughlin House, OMSI, and the Oregon Zoo.
Our Christ-centered approach to education is also demonstrated in how teachers interact with the student body. Our instructors regularly pray for the students and reflect Christ’s love for them. They even have played an instrumental role in leading students to a personal relationship with Christ.
TECHNOLOGYFINE ARTSMUSICATHLETICSAFTER ELEMENTARY
Success in today’s world and marketplace requires increased proficiency with the digital world. That’s why through all grade levels, we make technology a regular part of the academic process.
Mannahouse Christian Academy is equipped with multiple computer labs that can bring state-of-the art technology into each classroom, a research lab, and a complete 36-station computer training center, loaded with the latest in academic, office, and design software.
Beginning in elementary grades, students have a structured computer class, which helps them develop skills with keyboarding, word processing, safe computing, Internet research, simple graphic design, an introduction to Microsoft Office Suite, Google Applications and basic computer programming.
As students transition to middle and high school, they have access to Google Education Suite web based applications. This allows them to learn in a collaborative work environment where they can be creative and share their ideas.
For advanced high school students, we offer an IT apprenticeship program where students can learn additional hardware and software skills. Additionally, students can take advanced courses in: Computer Management, Logic & Design, Network Management, and Security.
The technology skills students develop are designed to prepare them for success and help lay a foundation for a variety of career interests such as business, database management, illustration, photography, media design, website design, networking, game creation, video editing, and others.

INTERNATIONAL ADMISSIONS
Thank you for your interest in our International Students Program!
Mannahouse Christian Academy has gained the attention of a number of international student exchange agencies as a result of the school’s high standard of education and affordable tuition. MCA welcomes international students from around the world because we value the educational benefits of diverse global perspectives and cultural understanding in our private Christian school community.
MCA provides a welcoming and safe environment in which international students can receive an excellent private school education, develop meaningful friendships, and grow in their knowledge of Christ and His plan for their lives. We celebrate several cultural events throughout the school year! We love to see our international students participate in those events and bring a traditional perspective from their home country.
We are accredited by Cognia and offer a rigorous college preparatory program along with enrichment opportunities such as: National Honor Society, Nursing Assistant Program, Wellness ( health, personal fitness and physical education), Music (choir, worship leadership, Band/ Orchestra), Foreign Language, Technology, Drama, Visual art, 2 D Art and 3 D Art. MCA is a member of OSAA and participates in a full competitive sports program. Students also participate in chapel services, Bible Study groups, and Bible classes.

Application Process:
Once the application is received and reviewed, we will contact the student for an interview. In some cases, a Zoom, Duo, Skype, Wechat, Kakao talk, Line interview may be acceptable. Students, families or agents will then be notified of the admission decision and an I-20 & Acceptance Letter will be issued if the student is admitted.
Enrollment Process:
Agent, Local Coordinator or MCA will provide necessary information to help parents complete the Enrollment Process which includes selecting the payment plan: Annual Payment Plan (pay in full in one payment) or the Semi Annual Payment Plan (two payments) and signing the tuition payment contract on behalf of parent(s).

Often, a lot of elementary English language vocabulary and grammatical proficiency (3rd – 8th grade) is missing in an ELL (English Language Learner).
MCVA LEARN ANYWHERE
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS PROGRAM
MCVA aims to partner with missionary families to lend a helping hand in meeting their educational needs. MCVA can also offer the benefit of an accredited high school diploma, authorized by the Oregon Department of Education. An accredited diploma from the United States is very helpful and often an admissions requirement for most colleges and universities.

The primary responsibility for the education of children lies with the parents. HISTORY OF MCA (FORMALLY CCS)
History of MCA (formally CCS)
ccs the early yearsCity Christian Schools began in 1974 as Temple Christian Schools, a vision of Bible Temple Church, enrolling 105 students grades 1-9. The driving force for the creation of this school was the need for students to learn quality academics in a godly environment.
Since then, City Christian Schools has been striving to consistently exceed expectations in Christian education.
Today we have grown even more and now have new brand for our schools. Welcome to Mannahouse Christian Academy.
Our desire is to see every student encouraged and motivated to become all that God wants them to be in academic, social, physical, artistic and, most importantly, spiritual areas. Jesus is to be the center of all learning and living and this will guide the development of the child’s character and moral behavior.
MEET THE BOARD
We are very thankful for our board members. We especially appreciate all the hard work and investment that they put into the school both financially and spiritually.
