The Five Cornerstones
Since our founding in 1928, we have used the Five Cornerstones as an approach to developing the whole person. These cornerstones have stood the test of time and remain central to our institution today.

It is the goal of our faculty to provide cadets the best possible education, equipping them with the critical thinking skills that will enable them to navigate the complexities of life. Many of our students graduate from VFMAC and use their knowledge to enroll in the most competitive universities–the most challenging, yet promising academic environments.

Our education philosophy is grounded in developing cadets of the highest moral character, excelling in integrity, honesty and service.
Personal Motivation
We inspire excellence in our cadets through teamwork, organizational pride, and setting and achieving personal goals.
Physical Development

Cadet Life
THE FULL LIFE OF CADETS
Life as a cadet is rich, meaningful and fun. The process of overcoming challenges—whether it’s a difficult exam or an obstacle course—is deeply rewarding, even exhilarating. And facing these challenges together alongside other cadets is how deep, lasting friendships are forged.
The Corps of Cadets
The structure of cadet life is governed by the Corps of Cadets, a cadet-led system which administers the implementation of rules, traditions and many activities. The Corps follows a military structure, headed by a Commandant of Cadets, and with a Chain of Command through which the delegation of authority descends. This system provides cadets with countless opportunities to experience both leading and following well, in the context of their peers.
Plebe System
To become a recognized member of the Corps of Cadets, one must successfully complete a period of training known as the “Plebe System.” The Plebe System is designed to orient new VFMAC students with our cadet-led community and our customs and traditions. It is a period of adjustment that every cadet who attends Valley Forge undertakes. It is a time honored “rite of passage” that binds all those who attended Valley Forge in a common bond of brotherhood.
This process determines that each has the requisite skills, traits, and attributes to achieve success in all programs at Valley Forge. The process of overcoming challenges-whether it’s a difficult exam or an obstacle course-is deeply rewarding, even exhilarating. And facing these challenges together alongside other cadets is how deep, lasting friendships are forged.
Cadet Life
Within the structure of the Corps of Cadets, there are many programs to make cadet life rich and interesting. The Cadet Life Program assists cadets in developing the social and life skills that will help them throughout their lives. The program offers character, religious, social, and physical programs to assist the cadet’s development as a whole person. In addition to their regular academic schedules, cadets have access to numerous clubs, activities, and honor societies, providing further opportunities to develop and pursue personal interests.
Honor Code of Conduct
“A cadet will not lie, cheat, steal, nor tolerate those who do.” The Honor Code of Conduct permeates every aspect of cadet life. The Corps is the guardian of this Honor Code and helps administer its enforcement.
Community Service & Volunteer Programs
Academy and College cadets are engaged in a variety of projects and activities at schools, nursing homes, churches, and food banks where they can contribute to the betterment of the community.
Campus Life
Our dedicated staff, faculty, and TAC team (Teach, Advise, Counsel) is on hand to help with the development of each cadet, assisting with interpersonal communication, life skills and personal growth.

COVID-19 Information
Continuing in-person education in a healthful manner is critical to advancing our tradition of producing the next generation of leaders.
While it is impossible to eliminate all risks, we have created plans and procesures to reduce risks by taking reasonable and thoughtful precautions. These measures include adjustments to our school calendar, new health protocols, reduced density in the classrooms, changes to our dining procedures, the ability to switch between in-person and online learning seamlessly as needed, and more.
We will continue to update this page and the documents within to accommodate new information about COVID-19, vaccines, and other factors.
Health and Safety Plans
Please be aware that these are “living” documents and we will adjust our plans based on guidance provided at any time as necessary, prudent and based on what is reasonable and feasible.

Donate with the Biggest Impact
We know that donations are extremely personal decisions, and you want your resources to go to recipients and programs that matter the most to you. We encourage all of our donors to choose an area close to their hearts, such as Band, Athletics, E Battery or Scholarships.
Many of our donors have chosen to make a gift in honor or in memory of someone special to them, while supporting the proud tradition of Valley Forge Military Academy & College. We have seen these donations to be particularly inspirational for our students and staff on campus.
We are also passionate about the effective use of your resources, so if you choose, you can simply allow the School to apply your contribution where it is needed most.

Forging Boys into Young Men
You know the potential your son has. You have a vision for him, for who you want him to be when he grows up. A man of character, integrity, self-discipline. Confident. Strong. Ready to take on the world.
Developing boys into young men of character is not easy. It requires a holistic approach: mind, body and soul. And, as a parent, it is hard to do it alone. It really does take a village. Most schools don’t offer the kind of structure and discipline that boys need to grow into their full potential.
That is what Valley Forge Military Academy does. We help mold boys into young men who are leaders in their communities, ready to handle the challenges of life.
Take the first step in your son’s future today. Contact us to learn more about how we can help.

Applying for Need-Based Tuition Assistance
Valley Forge Military Academy need-based financial aid may also be awarded to eligible cadets in grades 7 to 12 who display financial need. Financial need is determined through the filing of the Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) through the School & Student Services (SSS) by NAIS. SSS will send your application results directly to Valley Forge Military Academy with verification of your most recent W2. Once we have received this information and the student has been accepted for enrollment, we will notify you about available aid. The offer will be based on your demonstrated need, the school’s financial aid policies, and the available budget. Your award package may contain a combination of Valley Forge aid and other scholarships that match the uniqueness of your son’s abilities and contributions to Valley Forge. The nature of these scholarships may change during your son’s tenure at Valley Forge, as he matures and gets involved in different activities, but the total value of the award will not.Applications are available online here
SSS Code: 900044
The fee for financial aid applications varies each year.
We also recommend that you review the wide range of resources that SSS has put together to help families with the financial aid process.

A Solid Academic Foundation
The education at Valley Forge Military Academy is comprehensive– encompassing a challenging curriculum, leadership opportunities, character development, athletic competition, physical fitness, extracurricular activities and social interaction with a diverse group of peers.
High achieving cadets can even earn college credit by enrolling in courses at Valley Forge Military College, also on campus, at no additional charge.
COVID Considerations
A hallmark of the Valley Forge Academic’s is the small classroom and personal support for all of our students. Due to the worldwide health crisis, one of the steps we are taking to help our cadets is that during the evening study hall, faculty will be available though Google Hangouts for academic support.
Dual Enrollment at Valley Forge Military College
The Academy and College are working together on innovative cooperative programs to move past high school Advanced Placement (AP) courses to a Dual Enrollment program as a better path to college. Unlike AP courses, the dual enrollment program introduces high school cadets to the rigors of college coursework early and allows them to graduate with both a diploma and a college transcript. This program is offered to qualified cadets at no additional charge.
Faculty Members Take an Active Interest in Every Student
A challenging curriculum, dedicated faculty, small classes and individual attention provide cadets an intense individualized learning experience. Academy teachers are selected not just for their professional credentials but for their tireless dedication. They supervise and assist students in their mandatory evening study periods and work overtime as athletic coaches and advisers of extracurricular activities.
In short, they care.

Regimental Band
The Regimental Band has made appearances in inaugural parades of U.S. Presidents and has historically performed at the inaugurals of Pennsylvania governors since Valley Forge Military Academy and College’s founding in 1928. The Band has also presented a concert at a formal White House dinner and appeared with the famed Philadelphia Orchestra at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia and the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. They have also performed with the Philadelphia Pops Orchestra.
The Band maintains a busy schedule, playing daily for the Corps formations, as well as for regimental reviews, parades in the fall and spring, three formal concerts on campus, the annual Military Tattoo, and many outside concerts and parades for civic and charitable organizations. Most recently they represented the U.S.A. at the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo.
Special engagements include the annual performance at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show in Harrisburg and the Devon Horse Show, appearances with the Philadelphia Phillies, numerous appearances at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the National Constitution Center, and Philadelphia’s Union League.
Regimental Choir
The Regimental Choir is open to all cadets who enjoy making music and wish to broaden their educational experience.
The group has a prestigious performance history, including venues like the White House, the Pentagon, the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City, and the Academy of Music where they performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra.
In their spare time, the Regimental Choir provides music for Valley Forge Military Academy and College’s annual Military Tattoo in November and the Holiday Concert in December. They also perform at Sunday services in the Alumni Memorial Chapel of St. Cornelius the Centurion on the Valley Forge campus.
Heraldic Fanfare Trumpeters
The brass members of the Regimental Band also form a special group called the Heraldic Fanfare Trumpeters. They provide a regal significance on and off campus. These trumpeters routinely perform prior to on-campus Chapel services throughout the school year and are on call to perform for Presidents, Supreme Court Justices and Governors on a regular basis.
Field Music
Valley Forge upholds the traditions of Field Music, which is older than American patriotism. Throughout history, soldiers have used music to communicate with one another.
The school’s Field Music group is comprised of Middle School band members as well as all academy cadets who have an interest in learning an instrument. No experience is required.
Field Music plays regularly for parades and formations both on- and off-campus. With Field Music, cadets are able to become competent musicians within a short period of time and contribute their talents to this gifted unit.

Alumni Awards
HONORING THE ALUMNI WHO HAVE MADE A LASTING IMPACT
We are proud to recognize the Valley Forge alumni who’ve gone on to accomplish great things as citizens and leaders.
Order of Anthony Wayne for Distinguished Service
The Order of Anthony Wayne for Distinguished Public Service is Valley Forge Military Academy & College’s highest award presented to those who demonstrate exceptional public service nationally or internationally.
The Order of Anthony Wayne award was established on January 18, 1929, when the original campus of Valley Forge Military Academy in Devon was completely destroyed by fire. The heroism of the cadets during this disaster, along with their excellent motivation and discipline, inspired General Baker to create this highly coveted award, and it remains the Forge’s most distinguished award to this day.
The award is made not only to distinguished cadets and members of the faculty, but also to community leaders who have achieved standards of excellence, shown high ideals and untiring efforts above and beyond the call of duty, contributed to the esprit de corps and progress of Valley Forge Military Academy & College, and who exemplified the best traditions of public service.
Order of Anthony Wayne Winners
Distinguished Alumnus Award
(First award presented in 1950)
Prior to 1980, the Distinguished Alumnus Award was given to alumni for a variety of reasons, including outstanding activity within the Alumni Association, as well as successes in the chosen field of endeavor. In 1980, an additional award was created – the Outstanding Alumnus Award – to be given for outstanding service to the school. Since that time, the Distinguished Alumnus Award has been limited to alumni who have become distinguished in their chosen field of endeavor.
Distinguished Alumnus Award Winners
Outstanding Alumnus Award
The Outstanding Alumnus Award is presented to an alumnus who has demonstrated outstanding dedication and support of Valley Forge Military Academy & College over a sustained period of time since graduation.
Outstanding Alumnus Award Winners
Honorary Alumnus Award
(First award presented in 1941 but award not formalized until 1981)
An Honorary Alumnus Award may be presented only to an individual who is not an alumnus or current employee and who has given outstanding service for the benefit of Valley Forge Military Academy & College in support of its high standards, traditions and goals, in direct support of its programs, or in direct service to its cadets. (1) Those who, as friends of the school, have shown their dedication and commitment to the school and through their actions, merit special recognition by the school as an alumnus; and (2) Those who have previously served on the faculty or staff at Valley Forge and who, by virtue of the longevity, quality and impact of service meet the qualifications above and who, therefore, merit special recognition by the school as an alumnus. (Current employees will not be eligible for bestowal of the award while in current employment status.)

Alumni Regiments
Regiment Chapters
Alumni Regiments enable you to establish and maintain ties to other Forge alumni in your local community. Regiments are geographically diverse and serve to bring alumni together to make connections, share experiences, and support the Valley Forge mission. Presently we have Regiments in cities that hold the greatest concentrations of Forge alumni, but we are always looking to expand into other areas.
For more information, or to start a Local Regiment in your area, please contact the Alumni Relations Office at 610-989-1329.
